Here at FIT Kickboxing and Wellness our goal is to offer a well rounded fitness experience that is not only an excellent workout routine, but also teaches basic and relevant self defense techniques. Combining martial arts and heart-pumping cardio, kickboxing is a high-energy total body workout that is guaranteed to burn calories and fat.  Our classes can burn up to 1000 calories per session and can be catered to any fitness level.    

Our kickboxing class  is a total body workout that improves cardiovascular endurance and muscle toning.  The routine changes every month to prevent weight-loss plateaus, and workout boredom, while exercising our brains, and building new muscle.  

We begin with a basic warm up of rope training, TRX suspension training, and tire bouncing.  

  • Rope training targets the upper body and core getting our shoulders and arms ready for the heavy bag.  

  • Tire bouncing helps warm up the ankles and works the calf muscles increasing our footwork.  

  • TRX suspension training uses your own bodyweight for various exercises. It increases balance and stability and is an amazing tool for all fitness levels.  Each month our TRX routine targets a different body section: upper body, lower body, or core.  

After completing the warm up, we move on to 45 minutes of heavy bag work.  In pairs, we perform multiple kickboxing routines at one minute increments.  After our class, we gather around and bow out, congratulating each other on a great workout.

Sunday marked one full year of kickboxing for me. I have gone 4 or 5 days each week during the year and have learned innumerable things about myself and life. I have also experienced the blessing of meeting some of the most wonderful people I've ever encountered -- who took seriously the desires of a middle aged, out of shape, and very frightened woman to learn something completely outside of her comfort zone, pretty much out of internal desperation.

There were times I was completely convinced that I couldn't do it, that I wouldn't ever get the hang of it, that my kicks would never be strong, that I would always and forever punch like a kitten, and that it was foolish of me even to try. At every one of those moments -- red faced, out of breath, phenomenally embarrassed, and on the verge of tears, there were multiple gym members who stepped in, made a joke, commiserated, and made it all seem wonderfully normal.

I will never have the words to explain how grateful I am and how much love I have for every single person who walks in the gym, but the reality is that now when I look in the mirror and see how my body has changed and gotten stronger and how my whole sense of self is more balanced and empowered, I see a reflection of all of the gym members because there was never even one day that I did any of this without them.

I walked in anxious and afraid and hot-tempered -- and every day since has been an exercise of mind, body, and spirit that continues to calm, focus, and strengthen who I am.

Eternally grateful doesn't begin to cover it, but a whole-hearted Thank You is definitely in order. Rick, the gym is a reflection of who you are -- strong, loving, hilarious, and dedicated to genuine transformation, a true Blessing. Thank you.
